Global Data Privacy Attorney & Public Policy Expert

With more than 20 years of experience in the areas of data protection, online and consumer privacy, information governance and information security globally, my emphasis has been primarily on the US, the EU and Latin America. I have handled legal compliance and public policy projects, government affairs and public advocacy missions, and offered technical assistance, research, training and capacity-building services for international organizations, governments, private companies, NGOs and trade associations.

I am currently working as a fractional in-house privacy counsel. In this role, I mostly advise corporate clients on multi-jurisdictional privacy and data governance projects that trigger US, EU, Latin American and other major data privacy legal frameworks, and help them implement their compliance and data governance projects.

I worked as an attorney with several law firms for many years, first in the United States, then Belgium, and finally Mexico, where I also spearheaded my own law firm.

Career highlights include:

• In-house experiences include advising at a senior level on data privacy matters a Fortune 100 multinational company that is a leader in the digital and interactive entertainment sector and, as a fractional privacy counsel or data protection officer, a US and EU-based publisher and Internet consumer and marketplace business, an educational technology company providing AI-driven personalized learning experiences for students and tools for instructors, and a top 20 cybersecurity company providing global email management and software services.

• In 2012, while in Mexico, I founded the country's first non-profit organization active on data privacy issues and related digital rights.

• I am invited to speak at conferences around the world on data protection and online privacy issues, and have testified before the European Parliament, US Congress, the European Commission, and other international legislative and governmental bodies.
