AI and Data Lawyer, Bird & Bird; AI PhD Researcher, iHub

Shima Abbady is a senior associate in Bird & Bird’s Commercial group in The Hague where she focuses on things high-tech: she specializes in advice and litigation relating to AI, Data and Technology. She is also a PhD Researcher in the field of AI regulation.

Shima mainly assists clients on AI matters, with a special focus on European AI regulation. Additionally, she has extensive experience in a broad range of technology and data related matters, including data protection and data regulation, IT and platform liability and online safety.

In her practice, Shima enjoys combining the strategic and practical with the academic and theoretical. She has been able to gain a good understanding of the practical and strategic issues that companies face thanks to among others her in-house experiences with a social media platform and an international payment services provider. She is currently training her academic and theoretical skills by undertaking PhD research in the field of AI at the iHub (the interdisciplinary center for digitalization) of the Radboud University.

Shima’s ancillary activities include being a board member for the Dutch Association of AI Attorneys (VAIA). She also frequently speaks internationally, teaches and writes about (mainly) AI related topics.
