Shima Abbady is an associate in Bird & Bird’s Commercial group in The Hague where she specializes in advice and litigation relating to AI, Data and Technology. She is a member of firm’s Artificial Intelligence, Data Protection and Tech & Comms groups. She is also a PhD Researcher in the field of AI.



Shima mainly provides advice to and litigates for clients on a broad range of technology and data related matters, such as AI, data protection, data regulation and cybersecurity. She also often litigates and advises on other commercial technology-related topics, including platform liability, online safety, e-commerce and contracting.



In her practice, Shima enjoys combining the strategic and practical with the academic and theoretical. She has been able to gain a good understanding of the practical and strategic issues that companies face thanks to her in-house experiences advising on data protection matters to a social media platform and an international payment services provider. She is currently training her academic and theoretical skills by undertaking PhD research in the field of AI.



Shima’s ancillary activities include being a board member for the Dutch Association of AI Attorneys (VAIA).
