Diversity and Inclusion Principles

The IAPP recognizes diversity and inclusion as core principles of our organization and profession.

As an international organization with a broad and expansive mission to define, promote and improve the professions of privacy, AI governance and digital responsibility globally, we have a duty to ensure that the IAPP reflects the professional community that we serve. These principles cannot function without a strong commitment to the values of respect and dignity towards and amongst our membership. Further, we recognize the strategic value of diversity and inclusion in the administration of the IAPP and the content of our work. We also endeavor to build pathways of opportunity so that our profession and these principles are strengthened over time.

Within these principles, we make these commitments:

  1. We seek diversity in our staff, in our volunteer leaders, in our events, and in our profession. To that end, we seek diverse applicants for all opportunities at the IAPP. This includes job openings, volunteer roles, and speaking opportunities.
  2. We seek proposals for speaking roles and sessions at our events that bring diverse perspectives to our members.
  3. We will work to build professional pathways for communities that are under-represented within our membership.
  4. We will treat all members of our community with respect and dignity. We will demand that our members treat each other with respect and dignity.
