Senior European Commission officials were the subjects of surveillance attempts using spy software developed by Israeli vendor NSO Group, Reuters reports. The surveillance attempts happened throughout 2021 and targets included European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders, though the commission did not provide details regarding the hackers' identities and if they were successful. The NSO Group, whose controversial spy software the European Data Protection Supervisor recommended a ban on, denied the use of their software was involved in the allegations.
