U.S. Sens. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., and Mike Lee, R-Utah, introduced the bipartisan Security and Freedom Enhancement Act, which would reauthorize Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act with new requirements for intelligence agencies, prior to the law sunsetting 19 April. Under the proposed bill, intelligence agencies would either have to obtain a FISA Title I order or a search warrant before being permitted to query U.S. citizens' communications data.
