U.K. Minister of Culture, Communications and Creative Industries Stephen Parkinson said the Office of Communications will not use powers within the proposed Online Safety Bill to scan messaging apps for harmful content until technology is developed with the capability, the Financial Times reports. Social media companies, including WhatsApp and Signal, raised concerns over provisions within the bill. Signal President Meredith Whittaker said the U.K.'s stance is "a victory, not a defeat."
