The British Information Commissioner’s Office fined H&L Business Consulting 80,000 GPB for sending thousands of unsolicited marketing text messages. Between January and July 2020, H&L was found to have sent 378,538 spam marketing texts, which generated more than 300 complaints. The texts promoted a “government-backed” debt management operation that was not authorized by the Financial Conduct Authority. The ICO also issued H&L an enforcement notice that ordered the company to stop sending illegal direct marketing texts.
