Russian oligarchs and other influential individuals are using the U.K. General Data Protection Regulation to silence journalists, the Washington Post reports. Previously, the U.K. GDPR has been successfully used in suing people who may have undesirable or potentially compromising information about a powerful individual on their device, including one lawsuit decided in 2020. The individuals in possession of such information have been defined as a data controller and could constitute a violation under the law.
