South Korea’s Personal Information Protection Commission issued $45.4 million won in fines for alleged violations of the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Data Protection. Cetternet and Scoop Media were fined 9 million won, while Coinone faces a fine of 14 million won. The PIPC said Cetternet failed to encrypt user passwords, Scoop Media made withdrawal of consent more difficult than collection and Coinone recruited a survey resulting in unauthorized access to personal information.
