In an op-ed for The Toronto Star, Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario Patricia Kosseim supports Ontario's proposed employee monitoring transparency provisions under Bill 88, but does not support monitoring in general. Kosseim said the proposed legislation "doesn't go far enough" from a privacy perspective and any employer surveillance should be limited to "fair and appropriate purposes." She added that future regulation could build on Bill 88, but employee monitoring will "require more dedicated attention in a stand-alone private sector privacy law."
