Gov. Gavin Newsom, D-Calif., signed amendments to the California Consumer Privacy Act into law 8 Oct. The amendments, passed during the California Legislature's 2023 legislative session, concern an exemption for reproductive health data and the addition of immigration data to the definition of sensitive personal data. On the reproductive health data exemption, Newsom said "broad interpretation" could create "unintended consequences" relating to existing CCPA exemptions and called for a "clean-up policy to ensure an appropriate balance."
