A study by the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research and MeriTalk found a majority of Americans believe the federal government can improve citizens’ online data security. More than 7 in 10 adults believe personal data security should be a national security issue, and national standards for the collection, processing and sharing of personal data should be established by the federal government. Sixty-one percent say the federal government should “devote a good deal of time to data security and privacy.”
