In an op-ed for Inside Higher Ed, University of Michigan School of Information Assistant Professor Christopher Brooks writes allowing students to opt out of data sharing may lead to unfair bias. “Instead of encouraging opting out, we should be educating on the positive impacts of the data through transparency,” which he said will “allow us to support the equitable impact of data-driven educational supports” and strengthen trust with students.
