Cybercriminals are using artificial intelligence to target elderly U.S. citizens, CBS reports. The network cited an FBI report that found citizens lost more than USD10 billion in 2022 through online scams. Often, seniors fail to report scams out of embarrassment and local authorities do not have the “reach” to pursue scammers operating outside the U.S. In response, cities such as San Diego started an Elder Justice Task Force that intakes all local fraud cases and collaborates with federal authorities to connect them with victims.
