In response to the Privacy Act Review Discussion Paper by the Attorney General’s Department, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner released recommendations on potential privacy reforms. Recommendations include protecting consumers “from individual and collective privacy risks and harms,” “empowering consumers to take control of their personal information,” and “establishing a regulatory framework that supports proactive and targeted regulation” with strategic enforcement, efficient redress and appropriate deterrents. The OAIC also recommends additional support for the agency in pursuing regulatory action.
