Hello from Brussels,

Today we’re taking a quick look into IAPP KnowledgeNets and what is coming up at our conferences in 2020.

It’s already been a very busy year for KnowledgeNet meetings. We had a record number of meetings in January, with a total of 3,481 attendees at 93 meetings globally — 1,265 attendees at 47 meetings in Europe alone. As of writing, we already have 135 meetings planned for 2020 around the world — a very strong start to the year, indeed!

These meetings, of course, wouldn’t be possible without our amazing chapter chairs and young privacy professional leaders, many of whom have already planned out the rest of the year, so keep an eye on your inboxes for new invites!

As an aside, if you are not receiving invitations, please contact us so we can ensure you’re receiving information about these great local events.

Earlier this month saw the kickoff of IAPP conferences, with Data Protection Intensive: France in Paris. While I was not in attendance for this one, everyone came back to the office with nothing but great things to say about the keynotes, sessions and, of course, conversations with you, our members. If you didn’t have the opportunity to make it to Paris, have no fear! This was just the first of four conferences in our DPI series and five overall conferences in Europe this year — so there is much more to come.

Just around the corner is DPI: U.K., taking place in London at a brand new venue, 11-12 March. We have a robust program focusing on the practical side of data privacy and some amazing keynotes, including U.K. Information Commissioner Elizabeth Denham. Looking forward to attending this one and seeing everyone there!

After a short break for European conferences, we will be in the Netherlands for the first time ever with our next DPI series in The Hague, 9-10 June. Much like DPI: France and Deutschland, this will be a dual-track event with sessions in English, as well as Dutch. We are all very excited to launch this event and welcome everyone to this inaugural conference.

In its third year, DPI: Deutschland in Munich, 9-10 Sept., will close out our DPI series for 2020. The new and updated program will be announced next month, so stay tuned for more information!

You can find all the details for the DPI series in one inclusive webpage and decide where and when you want to attend. I look forward to seeing you at upcoming DPIs — or at least London. Stop by and say, "hi," if you’re there!

And, of course, the conferences in Europe close out with the European Data Protection Congress in Brussels. The call for session proposals is open until 15 March. Submit now for the opportunity to speak here in November.

Like I said, 2020 is off to a strong start. Looking forward to checking in again in a few months.

Warm regards,
Scott
