Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cabinet approved the Personal Data Protection Bill, and it will be tabled in the winter session of Parliament, which ends 15 Dec. The initial draft of the bill was first made public July 2018 and underwent revisions after several rounds of consultations with stakeholder groups. The final draft of the bill is expected to be available to the public within the next few days.

Philippines' National Privacy Commission hosted the 52nd Asia Pacific Privacy Authorities forum this week in Cebu. Experts and invited guests discussed global privacy trends, exchanged domestic experiences, enforcement challenges and cooperation across the Asia-Pacific region, which is covered in more details in the official communique.

The Data Security Council of India and Facebook announced the winners of their joint Privacy Challenge Application at the NASSCOM-DSCI Annual Information Security Summit Excellence Awards ceremony. Privacy Notice Adapter received first place for developing an application that allows data subjects to review and analyze privacy notices. Data Packers received the second-place award for developing a data analytics platform consisting of a data privacy module, data anonymization module and a data abstraction layer. The HDFC Bank’s data privacy team received third place for developing a consent management solution that accurately captures user preferences at data-collection instance and maintains its traceability and governance throughout its life cycle.
