CNIL opens data breach investigation

France's data protection authority, the Commission nationale de l'informatique et des libertés, opened an investigation into a data breach involving third-party payment operators Viamedis and Almerys. The reported breach affected more than 33 million individuals, as the two operators manage payments for health and mutual insurance companies. The CNIL also noted companies using Viamedis and Almerys must inform customers of potential involvement in the breach.
