Yukon Information and Privacy Commissioner Diane McLeod-McKay released her comments on potential amendments to the Health Information Privacy and Management Act. McLeod-McKay said her 18 recommendations aim to not only protect individual privacy rights, but also ensure "the proper controls to allow innovation while protecting privacy." She also noted the digitization of the health care system in the wake of COVID-19 makes data processing a "complex nature," especially when artificial intelligence is employed.
