WhatsApp co-founder Brian Acton will take over as Signal’s interim CEO following the announcement founder and CEO Moxie Marlinspike will step down, Reuters reports. Marlinspike will remain on Signal’s board and lead the search for his permanent replacement. Acton founded Signal’s competitor WhatsApp in 2009. After leaving the company in 2017 over differences regarding the use of customer data, Acton co-founded the Signal Foundation with Marlinspike in 2018.
