The efforts of Australian state government of Victoria to create a mandatory medical record keeping system has hit a legislative snag, the Guardian reports. Opposition politicians in the upper house wanted patients to have the right to opt out of the proposed system. The centralized database would be accessible by all public hospital clinicians and would be similar to systems in place in New South Wales and Queensland. The opposition was also expected to introduce an amendment that would refer the bill to the Legal and Social Issues Committee to allow for “proper feedback” by stakeholders.
