Democratic members of U.S. Congress sent a letter to the Federal Trade Commission calling for an investigation into online identity network company ID.me over alleged misrepresentations regarding its facial recognition technology. The letter said the company "likely misled consumers about how the company was using their sensitive biometric data" and potential deception that swayed federal and state government officials into selecting the company as a service provider. Lawmakers implored the FTC to investigate for violations of Section 5 of the FTC Act.
