U.S. Senators Marco Rubio, R-Fla., and Raphael Warnock, D-Ga., introduced the Protecting Sensitive Personal Data Act. The proposed legislation would expand oversight authority of the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Committee on Foreign Investment involving sensitive personal data. It seeks to protect data, including “genetic test results, health conditions, insurance applications, financial hardship data, security clearance information, geolocation data, private emails, data for generating government identification, and credit report information.” Rubio said strengthening CFIUS’s oversight authority would “protect Americans and mitigate this serious national security threat.”
