Radio New Zealand reports the Criminal Bar Association claims police use of automated number plate recognition is in breach of New Zealand's Privacy Act. Approximately 5,000 cameras in the Auckland area use ANPR as a crime prevention tool through private web-based company Auror. According to Auror, the goal of the police partnership is to "help Kiwis feel safer, particularly as we're seeing a rise in threatening and violent behaviour in our communities."
