The U.S. Department of Education determined the Gladstone School District in Oregon improperly disclosed students’ personally identifiable information in violation of national regulations, the Portland Tribune reports. A parent’s complaint filed under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act alleged a teacher shared a student’s attendance, participation and missing assignments through a software program. Spokesperson Leslie Robinette said the pandemic presented challenges with virtual learning and the district took steps to ensure staff is aware of applying FERPA rules in a virtual classroom.
