In an op-ed for The Hill, Center for Democracy & Technology Senior Policy Counsel for Worker Privacy Matthew Scherer writes the growing use of “bossware,” software enabling employers to monitor employees, is a threat to employees’ privacy and well-being. Scherer said current laws do not adequately address employee surveillance, calling on the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to issue formal guidance and lawmakers to act. “Imagine how much more intrusive bossware will become if policymakers don’t take it seriously,” he said.
