The U.K. Information Commissioner's Office plans to target social media companies and video streaming and gaming platforms when its Children's Code goes into effect Sept. 2. "We will be proactive in requiring social media platforms, video and music streaming sites and the gaming industry to tell us how their services are designed in line with the code," ICO Executive Director of Regulatory Futures and Innovation Stephen Bonner, CIPP/E, CIPM, wrote in a blog post. "We will identify areas where we may need to provide support, or should the circumstances require, we have powers to investigate or audit organisations." Editor's note: The IAPP hosts a page on children's privacy in the Resource Center.
