The U.S. Government Accountability Office published a report reviewing the deployment of facial recognition technologies by government agencies. GAO found 16 of 24 surveyed agencies use facial recognition for one or more purposes. The reasons for deployment included digital access or cybersecurity, crime prevention and general surveillance. Ten agencies acknowledged plans to expand use of facial recognition through 2023.
