The European Parliament will task a 38-member committee to investigate the use of the Israeli NSO Group’s Pegasus software primarily by EU member countries Hungary and Poland, Euractiv reports. The committee will look into allegations the governments of Hungary and Poland used Pegasus to hack phones of critics, journalists and other politicians. The investigation comes after the European Data Protection Supervisor urged a ban on using the software, and the Hungarian National Authority for Data Protection and Freedom of Information cleared the country’s prior use of Pegasus.
