A bill enabling the creation of a database for an automated biometric identification system has been approved by the Estonian government, Estonian Public Broadcasting reports. The system would create a central database of several currently under various ministries that contain biometric personal data. “The creation of the database and the resulting capability to compare biometric data will have a positive impact (on) the state's internal security as it will help law enforcement bodies resolve criminal offenses,” according to the report.
