The Global Encryption Coalition's Steering Committee said reports of an agreement between EU and U.S. officials to cooperate against encryption is "a worrying rehash of previous attempts to influence public opinion against encryption" that puts "the security of the private information of billions of people at risk." The coalition said there is no "effective way to weaken encryption for some use cases such as law enforcement while keeping it strong for others," adding "discourse manipulation against encryption could be dire for data security world-wide."
