Government-purchased wearable tracking bracelets intended to help slow COVID-19 spread among workforces in Ontario are raising privacy concerns, according to Yahoo News. TraceSCAN bands track COVID-19 exposure without location data and are planned to be used in areas where the COVID alert application is not accessible, like airlines and construction sites. University of Toronto Computer Science Professor Graeme Hirst raised privacy concerns, saying data confidentiality “depends entirely on the discretion and good practices of the employer and how they handle employee data.”
