U.S. Reps. James Comer, R-Ky., and Cathy McMorris, R-Wash., issued a letter to TikTok parent company ByteDance expressing concerns over the security of U.S. users’ data, MediaPost reports. The representatives claimed “the data collected by TikTok on U.S. users, such as browsing and search history, biometrics, location data … would be a massive national security risk” if the Chinese government could access it. The letter comes following a BuzzFeed report that China-based ByteDance employees had access to U.S. user data. The company partnered with Oracle to store U.S. data within the country.
