OPC halts investigation over Facebook Messenger access

The Tyee reports the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada shut down its probe into claims that Royal Bank of Canada was given access to personal communications on Facebook Messenger. The investigation stemmed from revelations in 2019 Facebook was allowing RBC to read, write and delete its app users’ private Facebook messages. OPC shut down its two-year investigation in January without publishing its findings, noting instead ongoing litigation against Facebook was the proper way to handle the allegations.
