U.S. District Court Judge for the Northern District of California James Donato approved Facebook's $650 million class-action settlement over alleged Illinois' Biometric Information Privacy Act violations. Donato said the settlement was "a major win for consumers in the hotly contested area of digital privacy" as approximately 1.6 million Facebook users will receive at least $345 in damages related to the company's use of biometric data without consent. Meanwhile, Google is still working to fend off a class-action privacy suit related to tracking users on its incognito browser.
