The European Commission plans to take legal action against Belgium after complaints were filed alleging Belgium's Data Protection Authority has not been meeting the independence requirements under the EU General Data Protection Regulation, Politico reports. The infringement procedure will be launched in response to complaints filed last year claiming the DPA has not adhered to the independence requirement, as several of its members are affiliated with the government. The process will start once the commission sends a letter of formal notice to Belgium asking for more information.
