CBC reports a January data breach at the Meals on Wheels charity in Edmonton, Alberta, is creating questions regarding the strength of provincial privacy law. The breach, which involved the data of more than 27,000 clients, donors, volunteers and employees, was reported to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta in June and a spokesperson said the office is still reviewing whether it has jurisdiction on the matter. Meals on Wheels had no legal obligation to report the breach, creating questions on whether privacy legislation needs updating to address such holes.
