To prevent a global digital world in which countries enact tighter cross-border data flow restrictions, American University Washington College of Law's scholar-in-residence in the Technology, Law and Security Program Alex Joel, CIPP/G, CIPP/US, writes in Lawfare that establishing a trusted framework for the free flow of data is paramount for national security. Joel referred to the Data Free Flow with Trust initiative and the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework as areas of progress in creating such a framework.
