Stanford University's Institute for Human Centered Artificial Intelligence published a white paper exploring the impacts global data privacy and security legislation is having on the development of AI. The paper presents three suggestions for ensuring personal data privacy as AI technologies increase in sophistication, which are deformalizing data collection from opt-out to opt-in by utilizing privacy by design, promoting transparency throughout the AI data supply chain and supporting new governance mechanisms to empower individuals to control use of their own data.
