Instant messaging platform WeChat temporarily suspended registration of new users in China as it works to “align with relevant laws and regulations,” Reuters reports. The upgrade is expected to be complete in early August, just before the National People’s Congress of China holds a third and final reading on the country’s Personal Information Protection Law. The proposal calls for strengthened measures by technology platforms to securely store user data.
