Democratic members of U.S. Congress reintroduced the Facial Recognition and Biometric Technology Moratorium Act. The bill prohibits government collection of personal data via any form of biometric recognition technology and creates a private right of action to combat potential violations. U.S. Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass., the bill's lead sponsor, said there's no reason to "forgo privacy and justice for safety," adding the bill seeks to stop improper tech deployments from "becoming irreversibly imbedded in our society."
