Courthouse News Service reports a privacy lawsuit against media platform Thomson Reuters will move forward in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. Judge Edward Chen ruled in favor of alleged California Consumer Privacy Act violations where personal information from the outlet's CLEAR database was not being used by its journalists, but instead to sell subscriptions. In his decision, Chen wrote the nonconsensual use of data, including contact information, a partially redacted social security number, criminal history and more, is "an all-encompassing invasion of plaintiffs’ privacy."
