The U.S. Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate released the results of its 2022 Biometric Technology Rally, Nextgov reports. Officials said group processing of facial recognition data is promising, however, some systems "did show … performance differences based on demographics." For the rally, 40 combinations of acquisition systems capturing images and matching algorithms were tested, 37 of which captured less than 1% of individuals not in the opt-in space among volunteers.
