China Central Bank Governor Yi Gang said privacy protection is a top lingering issue for implementing China’s central bank digital currency, the digital yuan, Yahoo News reports. Otherwise known as the e-CNY, it recently reached 100 billion yuan in transaction volume. Gang said e-CNY is designed to "ensure privacy protection and financial security through by-and-large anonymity and managed anonymity.” He added anonymity is done through "transaction-related data ... encrypted for storage," and "entities and individuals are prohibited from arbitrary inquiry or information usage without rigorous legal authorization."
