During his keynote address at the Public Interest Advocacy Centre annual dinner, Privacy Commissioner of Canada Philippe Dufresne said "it is a pivotal time for privacy … with challenges and opportunities in our legal, technological and societal landscapes." He spoke of a need to reform Canada’s federal public and private sector privacy laws "in a manner that recognizes and protects privacy as a fundamental right, while at the same time supporting the public interest and innovation."
