Police in cities such as San Francisco and Portland, Oregon, have photographed citizens during traffic stops and then run the photos through facial recognition programs, Gizmodo reports. However, the practice may be illegal, according to civil rights and privacy attorneys. They said facial recognition is prone to mistakenly identifying people and could not be probable cause for an arrest.
