European Parliament's Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee voted 42-2 in favor of an amended draft Digital Markets Act that includes a ban on targeted advertising. The new text requires companies to "refrain from combining personal data for the purpose of delivering targeted or micro-targeted advertising" while also stressing ad targeting against minors is strictly prohibited. The exception to targeting limits against adults is if there is "clear, explicit, renewed, informed consent" from a user, as defined in the EU General Data Protection Regulation.
