In an op-ed in The Hill, U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., called for the establishment of a federal regulatory agency tasked with enforcing a national consumer data privacy law. The agency would be created by her proposed Data Protection Act and "would be able to set and enforce data protection rules to mitigate data breaches, minimize their effects and fight against phishing and other scams, including those utilizing artificial intelligence."
