The possibility of better regulation of social media companies and cryptocurrency exchanges in the U.S. in 2023 is unlikely, Stanford University Cyber Policy Center International Policy Director Marietje Schaake writes in the Financial Times. She said the $100 million Big Tech spent lobbying U.S. lawmakers created a scenario where there is little appetite by either political party to take up the issue as “political divides are wider than ever.” However, Schaake said, “business as usual is over in the EU” for Big Tech following the passage of the Digital Markets Act and Digital Services Act.
