Stuff reports Wellington International Airport in New Zealand went ahead with a facial recognition trial despite prior disapproval and warning by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of New Zealand. The airport started the trial in June, using the technology to count how many passengers were passing through security and how long they were spending in lines. OPC argued the use of the tool could lead to use by other agencies, including law enforcement or intelligence entities, and create widespread risk.
